PERSONALITY:
Brandon is, on a fundamental level, desperate for a sense of family, and desperate to protect that wherever he finds it.

Orphaned at a young age and left in the care of an abusive system, Brandon has come to attach himself strongly to anyone who shows him kindness, or even just seems to include him. The earliest example of this, and one of the two most important ones (along with Big Daddy), is his best friend Harry. Harry and Brandon were in the same terrible orphanage together. They dealt with things together, and became like brothers. Presumably, they got out of there together- they certainly formed or helped to form the petty gang they were in as teenagers together. Harry was always the more outgoing and ambitious of the two, and as such became the one with the plans, while Brandon chose to devote himself to making those plans possible. The idea of himself as others' support is essentially how Brandon conceptualizes relationships.

Brandon is very much the silent type. If he can say it with a gesture or facial expression rather than words, he'll usually go for that. "It's alright" is conveyed through a pat on the shoulder or head. "Fuck you" is an intense glare. That being said, Brandon likes people and can warm to them fairly easily. There's little reason for him to be attached to one of his former coworkers from the loan shark department of Millenion, but the guy included Brandon in his own teasing way, and Brandon seems to consider him a lifelong friend because of it. Brandon is generous- it's made clear that he's apparently spending a large amount of the money he earns as one of Millenion's elite on the medical bills of the family members of friends or coworkers.

Honestly, Brandon attaches himself to people too easily in some cases. It only takes a few talks and fishing trips for Brandon to clearly come to see Big Daddy as a father figure, and then to take a bullet for the man. And once Brandon's attached, he stays pretty completely attached. The fact that he can't do something which he feels betrays either Harry or Big Daddy is what leads to Brandon's downfall when those two come into conflict.

At one point, Bear Walken (don't you love anime names) advises Brandon not to throw himself into every dirty job to save the people around him from doing it (as, in fact, Brandon had very recently done for Bear, killing Bear's traitorous old friend when Bear couldn't bring himself to). Bear tells Brandon to give himself a little freedom. Brandon replies that he doesn't know what freedom means. The truth is, he doesn't let himself know, because he doesn't let himself think of himself or pursue his own wants. His first priority is always protecting his "family" (even if said people don't necessarily want him to be doing all he does). Protecting their interests, protecting their feelings (which he may decide unilaterally), protecting their lives. It's pretty clear that Brandon only thinks of himself as being worthwhile if he's doing something for others, and that because he has such little self-worth, he buries himself (haha get it) completely in working on behalf of his loved ones. This, unfortunately, only gets worse as he gets older. The more violence he's had to commit in order to protect others or advance their interests, the more he's felt that such extremes are all he's suited for, and the more he's tried to cut himself off from any kind of regular life, believing he'll ruin it. He doesn't like his work as a hitman, but he believes it's necessary. And Brandon is the one who does what's necessary, so that Harry's plans can be fulfilled, or so that Big Daddy can retire to a normal life.

In spite of his low self-worth, Brandon actually has a great deal of willpower. He's extremely self-disciplined, a fact which comes out most clearly in the amount of workouts/practice shooting he does. He may devote himself to others, but he's not actually very suggestible - it takes a long time and circumstances beyond his control, for example, for him to initially get over his dislike of guns, in spite of how quick Harry is to adopt the use of them. Brandon is extremely single-minded. Once he's decided on something, that's usually it, outside of exceptional circumstances. His stubbornness combines with the issues mentioned above creates someone who is astoundingly dogged in his sacrificing himself. When Blood War (don't you love anime names) used necrolized gang members to wage a war against Millenion, Brandon deliberately planned out a way to take down the gang by himself, taking advantage of a deal offered by War to set things up and preparing appropriate weaponry, etc. Brandon also didn't tell anyone else and clearly expected to die taking the gang down. He was saved by the fact that others did figure it out.

Although he's certainly quick to act in tense or combat situations, Brandon is generally very patient. After joining Millenion, he waited months for Harry to contact him and discuss what their plans would be, as well as waiting a long time to finally reconnect with Maria. His patience is an asset in his work and allows him to hold to what morals he can- his coworkers mention that he would always wait and find a way to deal with any single targets alone, so that family or innocent bystanders stood no chance of being harmed.

The fact that he rarely pursues his own interests, and the additional air of passivity his patience can give him, can lead to Brandon seeming unintelligent. He is, in fact, pretty observant, and sometimes chases down information on his own. Brandon pays attention to people, and cares about what they're doing. He finds out when a friend's mother dies and comes to visit the grave without the friend informing him. Even Harry, who's known Brandon more or less his whole life, can underestimate Brandon's intelligence. Harry keeps the fact that he continued the necrolization research a secret from Brandon, presumably knowing that Brandon would find it a step too far (Brandon does, but he's willing wait to see if Harry can come around). The fact that Brandon found out about this is a shock to Harry. The fact that Brandon not only found out, but made plans for the event of Harry taking, uh, drastic action on finding out that Brandon found out, comes as an even bigger shock. But it makes sense- Brandon does try to be prepared.

As seriously as he takes, well, nearly everything, Brandon does have a teasing side that comes out in his closest relationships. When he actually relaxes with Harry or Maria, he'll needle them in good fun (Harry: my girlfriend's dad is giving her grief, Brandon: isn't that your fault?). He doesn't seem to mind teasing in general- it makes him feel like one of the group, even with people he doesn't really tease back. Brandon also has a bit of a cocky side, at least when he's fighting. When he's fighting hand-to-hand, he tends to crook a finger at opponents, wordlessly egging them on. He knows he's good, and a contest of strength isn't the worst thing (this is an affectation he pretty much drops once he starts using guns, though- it only comes up again after he's become Grave).

It has to be pointed out that at his current canon point, Brandon has deadened his affect very noticeably. He's actually a little more likely to speak to get his point across, but that comes at the cost of things like the clear facial expressions of when he was younger. He has been slowly shutting himself down completely. He feels that his work has disconnected him from Maria, the woman he's been in love with his entire life, and even can't seem to connect with his subordinates outside of work (although he'll pay the aforementioned medical bills, showing he does actually care). He's tied himself so completely to the goals of protecting Millenion, Big Daddy, Harry, and in a different sense Maria that he almost thinks that's the entirety of what he is. Being disconnected from that would be a change, to say the least.

POWERS:

Stealth: Canonically, Brandon is very good at going unnoticed until he intends to be noticed. He unnerves Blood War a great deal by quietly sitting at the bar completely unremarkable until he suddenly has a gun trained right on War (who threatened Harry). As a power, he won't become invisible (he'll still be visible on cameras, or to people who can see through illusions), but attention will slide over him completely until he turns the power off.

Immunity to Bullets: At this point in canon, Brandon is very much susceptible to bullets (haha). This one's a call-forward to when he becomes Grave, at which point he shrugs off normal bullets until his status deteriorates. If there's some fancy anti-imPort bullets those will work, and he'll be able to be hurt by other weapons, but normal ammo from any gun will just bounce off him.

〈 CHARACTER SAMPLES 〉
COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:
[The man in front of the camera is broad-shouldered, dressed in a black suit of respectable quality. His hair, also black, is slicked back, and even the strands that have escaped to hang in front of his forehead appear deliberate. With the square glasses he's wearing, the look is more than a little "corporate executive." He's glancing nervously at his wrist, though, and when he speaks it's with a mild tenor that doesn't match the sharpness of his appearance.]

Nanites... [The pause is significant, as he turns to stare at the camera.] Are we dead when we arrive? [He speaks haltingly. He's never been good with words- that's Harry's skill.] Do they use these to make us work for them?

[The video continues for several more seconds, before with a small "ah" he seems to realize he won't get replies until he actually posts this, and taps the screen.]

Brandon will arrive with two handguns in shoulder holsters, which can be confiscated if the government chooses to.
